The La Posada Hotel Winslow, Arizona |
|
Thanks to a tip from
Howard, a subscriber to the ALL ABOARD newsgroup, we found this truly wonderful
"National Treasure" in Winslow, Arizona.
As soon as we walked into the doors of this wonderful hotel, we both knew it was indeed a special place. Restored to it's original beauty and charm, we almost felt as if we were a guest in a good friend's home. A vintage 1930's railroad hotel with both Southwestern and Santa Fe influence. What a wonderful place!
La Posada was the last and the most elegant (according to their brochure) of the Fred Harvey Hotels. It was designed by Mary Colter, who is regarded as one of the greatest Southwest architects. She called La Posada, "her masterpiece."
Words cannot express what a wonderful Hotel this truly is. Sure, being next to the bnSF mainline and right next door to an Amtrak station is a plus for rail enthusiasts, but there is so much more to this magnificent building. I will let the photos speak for themselves.

(This is a panoramic view of the Hotel taken from the track side. I shot this photo with an Olympus digital camera in panoramic mode.)
